Norris is Stamping Out Hunger!

Authored by: Kevin Byrns, Recreation and Wellness Specialist

Yeeaahhh, the rain held off! On Saturday May 12th, 2018 the residential services youth and staff at Norris joined the Mukwonago Food Pantry (and other community volunteers) to participate in the annual nationwide “Stamp out Hunger” food drive. This is an event where the United States Post Office collects food donations that are set outside by residents near their mailboxes. Understanding mail trucks are filled with packages, making it difficult to collect all the generous donations, they look to volunteers to help assist in the collections and sorting. This might sound strange and may be difficult to understand but after driving through several neighborhoods and going past hundreds of houses, it’s very inspiring and exciting each and every time you site a blue  collection bag. Over 7,000 pounds of food was collected that day from just over three different towns so thank you to everyone for all of your donations! From all of us at Norris we would like to thank Cindy Eggleston, Executive Director of the Mukwonago Food Pantry, and everyone involved in the Food Pantry for giving us and our youth the opportunity to give back to the community we’ve called home for the last 100+ years.
