May is Foster Care Appreciation Month. This is a time to recognize the individuals who make a difference in our community. Within Beyond Fostering, this month provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaningful connections, challenges, and successes that have shaped the past year.
Behind every child receiving support are foster parents, birth families, case managers, therapists, teachers, and countless others working together to help children thrive. This month serves as an important reminder of the compassion, resilience, and dedication shown by those involved in our community’s foster care system.
Thank You to Our Beyond Fostering Families
During Foster Care Appreciation Month, we want to extend a special thank you to the foster families within our Beyond Fostering program. Your compassion, patience, flexibility, and commitment make a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth every day.
Foster care is not always easy. It requires showing up during moments of uncertainty, helping navigate challenges with empathy, and creating space for healing, growth, and connection. The support, stability, and care you provide to children does not go unnoticed.
We are truly grateful for the many ways our foster families advocate for children and youth, celebrate milestones, provide encouragement during difficult moments, and open their homes and hearts to children in need. Your willingness to walk alongside children and families during vulnerable times has a meaningful impact that extends far beyond what can be seen.
We also want to recognize birth families working toward healing and reunification, as well as the many individuals and community agencies who help support children and families throughout their foster care journey.
Reflecting on the Past Year
Over the past year, Beyond Fostering has continued to grow alongside the children, families, and communities we serve. Since last May, we have had the privilege of supporting 17 children across 6counties.
This year also brought meaningful milestones worth celebrating. We were proud to see one of our foster parents recognized with the Governor’s Award- an honor that reflects the commitment foster families bring to children every day.
Most importantly, we celebrated moments of permanency for 8 children within our program through reunification, guardianship, or adoption. Each permanency outcome represents far more than a number – it represents healing, stability, growth, and hope for the future.
How You Can Support Foster Care Month
During Foster Care Appreciation Month, there are many meaningful ways to support children and families involved in foster care. Every act of support, big or small, can make a difference in the life of another.
Ways to show support may include:
- Thanking a foster parent or child welfare professional for the work they do
- Donating essential items, gift cards, clothing, or supplies to foster families and youth (Donate here!)
- Volunteering your time with organizations that support children and families
- Becoming licensed as a foster parent or respite provider
- Mentoring youth involved in foster care
- Offering internships, opportunities, or encouragement to older youth preparing for adulthood
- Learning more about foster care and helping reduce stigma surrounding the child welfare system
- Advocating for children and families in your community
We are grateful for every individual who helps create safety, belonging, and support for children and families involved in foster care. Thank you for being part of the Beyond Fostering community and for the care, dedication, and compassion you continue to show each day.
