Employee Spotlight – Jordan Jung, Residential Care Specialist

Authored by: Shannon Bader, Human Resources Coordinator

Please welcome Norris in saying CONGRATULATIONS to Jordan Jung on being chosen as our June Employee Spotlight Winner!!  Thank you Jordan, for your ongoing commitment and support to our youth!!

How long have you worked at Norris and in what positions?

3 months as a Residential Care Specialist

What is your favorite Norris memory?

I told a youth to not play in the mud.  But he decided to go in anyway to catch frogs. His foot got stuck because the mud was so deep and he ended up falling in.  When I helped him up, the youth laughed and said “This is what it’s all about.”  I still laugh about it, but now I’m even using that phrase!

I also really like utilizing the 900 acres and being active with the boys.

What is your favorite song of all time?

I’ll be missing you puff daddy – Faith Evans. I played that one for my grandpa’s funeral.

What was the last gift that you gave to someone?

Bouquet of flowers and a magnet for fiance.

What were you like in high school?

I was a class clown, jock, state champ in volleyball, I was a lot of fun and a lot of laughs and chased a lot of girls. I was friends with everybody.

If you received enough money to never need to work again, what would you spend your time doing?

Playing sports and working with youth…. doing what I’m doing now basically. More travel

What is your favorite food to prepare (or eat)?

Chicken wings. I prepare them myself. I have air fryer at home and use Buffalo Wild Wings sauce.

When was the last time you traveled somewhere new?

I went to Peru.

How do you spend your free time?

Hanging out on my boat. Hanging out with family and friends. Being active and playing sports.

What is your most useless talent?

I can throw stuff really really high in the air and catch it. Watermelon, popcorn, etc.

Who would play you in the Lifetime original movie of your teen years?

Jack Nicholson

What is the best advice that you have been given from staff when you started working here?

The advice I got was from Chris Gillie AKA Circus Bear. “Give them food”  Basically when in doubt, give them food, works every time.

What would be your best advice for new staff at Norris?

Get them out and have fun with them. Get their minds off the halls. Utilize what we all have here. Keep them entertained and occupied. Be involved! Jump in and play with them.

What is the last thing that you’ve done that’s worth remembering?

Today at my Grandma’s. I bought her a smart phone yesterday and I was teaching her how to use it. Seeing her learn it for the first time. She thanks me for my patience. I’m really just trying to get her to relax and have fun learning. Make her feel stress free about it. I think I will always remember that time.
