Employee Spotlight: Kevin Byrns Lead Residential Care Specialist

Kevin has been an integral part of the Norris team for many years and we are happy to recognize him for all of his hard work, dedication and of course this AWESOME #TBT picture!

How long have you worked at Norris?  What position did you start in? What positions have you been in?

I have been with Norris for 25 years. I started as a third shift Youth Care Worker (YCW). I went on to work as a 1st and second shift YCW, Rec Coordinator, and now a Lead RCS.

What is your favorite Norris memory?

Canoe testing every year is one of my best memories.

What is your favorite song of all time?

American Pie by Don McLean

What was the last gift that you gave to someone?

I gave a laptop to a great friend.

What were you like in high school?

I was athletic in high school and once voted as Best Personality and most likely to be an Aerobics Instructor.

If you received enough money to never need to work again, what would you spend your time doing?

I would spend my time traveling around the world in a catamaran. It’s a fancy word for a boat!

What is your favorite food to prepare (or eat)?

I love to prepare Chinese food because it is like doing a science experiment. Otherwise I will eat lots of Gyro’s made for me.

When was the last time you traveled somewhere new?

In 2015 I traveled to the Panama Canal.

How do you spend your free time?

I love to Netflix and Chill! I have a great relationship with Netflix. I can either stay home and be with Netflix on my couch or even head to the local park where I can spend time with Netflix on my phone while sitting on a park bench.

What is your most useless talent?

I can imitate Frank Welker’s voice for the character Bunjee in the Bunjee Adventure show. (80’s cartoon) Please ask me to demonstrate this for you.

Who would play you in the Lifetime original movie of your teen years?

80’s Val Kilmer would play me.

What is the best advice that you have been given from staff when you started working here?

The only consistent thing in life is change!

What would be your best advice for new staff at Norris?

Have fun, play, and build relationships with the youth.

What are you most proud of personally and professionally?

Norris getting the high ropes course.
