Norris Employee Spotlight: Alex Gigot, Training and Coaching Coordinator

Authored by: Sonja Kania, Chief Talent & Social Capital Officer

Alex Gigot has been with Norris for the last five years in various different roles. Alex first started out as a Youth Care staff working directly on the units with the residents.  Alex was then promoted to the role of Cottage Manager where he spent time managing the day to day responsibilities of the APEX unit while also enhancing his leadership skills. Over the last year, Alex was in the role of First Shift Supervisor/Coordinator where he helped to manage the scheduling on campus as well as providing crisis intervention and support to direct care staff and leaders across Norris and Norris Academy. While in this role, Alex also developed a strong passion and commitment to train and coach all staff across campus, as well as a motivation to integrate trauma informed care throughout our day-to-day work at Norris. Alex most recently was promoted to Training and Coaching Coordinator in mid-October and we are very excited for him to take the lead on developing a more robust and consistent new hire integration process for all new employees joining the Norris team. Executive Director, Denise Pilz, commented: “This is a much needed role at Norris so that we can take what we have learned in training and what we know about the best treatment and care for youth and ensure that we are infusing that into everyday practice. Alex is the perfect person to help us do this! I’m excited for you to take Norris to the next level! Alex will also be responsible for helping to enhance our annual training for existing staff as well as providing some more hands-on coaching, mentoring and consultation to all staff and leaders across campus. In addition to his new role at Norris, Alex is also currently enrolled in the Masters of Social Work program at UW-Milwaukee where he has chosen to focus his studies on Children and Families and Mental Health.  Alex draws inspiration for his work from this Jim Carrey quote:

“The effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is because everything you gain in life will rot and fall apart and all that will be left of you is what was in your heart.”

Congratulations Alex! We look forward to seeing all the great things you can accomplish in your new role! Stay tuned for more Employee Spotlights in the coming months!
